Justin Fox, in a [Bloomberg column on the counter-intuitive OA bear-hug from the big commercial publishers](https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-01-16/berlin-academic-publishing-conference-shows-shift-in-open-access), recounted the boasts from Wiley and its peers at a recent conference:

> A counterpart from Springer Nature, the No. 2 publisher, proudly reeled off the paywall-free share of the papers published in Springer journals by researchers from various countries — Sweden was the champ, at 90%.

The stratified access to OA authorship that read-and-publish deals enable—along national-income lines, a la Sweden—is itself a big North-South equity issue that no one's talking about.
