Kieren McCarthy, writing for The Register, on the Internet Society’s (ISOC) sale of the .org domain-name registry to a private equity firm:
ISOC is supposed to act in the interests of the internet community, and that community has been vocal about the fact that the sell-off, which is expected to complete within the next few months, was announced with no consultation.
The whole affair stinks, but the sale of the nonprofit domain to private equity is a metaphor for the internet itself.
